Travel Day. Flights will arrive in Las Vegas (LAS), and we’ll have a three to four hour trip to our destination. It’s a scenic drive with stops along the way. We’ll enter Zion National Park in the late afternoon, the best time of day to soak in the sights of this monumental canyon. From the park, we travel through the historic mile-long Zion-Mt. Carmel tunnel just before arriving at our private mountain home.
Heart of Zion. Our first day of exploring will take us into the heart of Zion National Park. A number of great hiking trails are accessible along main canyon road, including the popular Angel’s Landing, reached by a heart-pounding climb up and across a narrow precipice. We will want to start early to avoid the crowds.
- Hiking Recommendation: Angel’s Landing (5.4 miles) or Emerald Pools (3.0 miles)
- Picnic lunch at Zion Lodge
- Stop inside Visitor Center for trail maps and souvenirs
Bryce Canyon National Park. A one-hour drive from the house, Bryce Canyon is a world apart from Zion Canyon. And the hiking is completely different. Here, you hike into a deep canyon, a great amphitheater filled with beautiful and bizarre rock spires called hoodoos. Many of the formations have names or stories attached to them, and all can cast a spell.
- Hiking Recommendation: Peekaboo Loop via Queen’s Garden (6.6 miles)
- Half-day horseback tours are available in lieu of hiking
- Picnic lunch at historic lodge/visitor center
Zion’s Backcountry. This day we avoid the crowds and start from a trail head outside the park boundaries. This aggressive all-day hike will take us from the high plateau, down through beautifully sculpted canyons, and back up to an eye-popping viewpoint overlooking Angel’s Landing and other famous monuments.
- East Rim Trail through Echo Canyon to Observation Point (8 miles RT)
- Lunch packed for the trail
Zion Canyoneering. At the very end of Zion Canyon Road is where the Virgin River emerges from a deep, narrow canyon. This is where we start our day’s adventure. On this unusual hike, the river itself is our trail as towering canyon walls grow taller and tighter around us. We will at times be hiking ankle, knee or waist deep in water. No technical skills or gear required. This is a quintessential Zion experience and a spectacular life-list hike.
- The Narrows (8 miles)
- Lunch packed for the trail
Travel Day. With late afternoon departures from Las Vegas, we’ll ease our way back into civilization, indulging in scenic stops and a leisurely lunch along the way.
The Zion/Bryce trip surpassed any expectations my husband and I could have had. Not being the most adventurous of the group I was very reluctant to go on the trip. However, once we arrived at our great home and saw how amazing the area was my mood changed dramatically. Joe was the wonderful guide and host that I would have expected. He kept us on time and on task in his gentle yet strong way. Jenny could not have been more delightful and helpful. From her yoga stretches to her patience on the hikes she accompanied with and her beautiful photos that she shared with us you can rest assured that she was indeed an asset the entire trip. Both of them helped me to do amazing tasks that I never in my wildest dreams thought I would do in my lifetime. I have told all of my friends what a great trip we had and I have also told them to go to your web site to look at upcoming adventures. Thanks so much to you, Joe, and Jenny.
The hiking trip to Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks was fantastic on every level! 1. The guides: Joe and Jenny were fabulous trail guides, meal planners, cooks, time keepers, group managers, hosts, drivers, emotional supporters and fun makers. There is absolutely nothing that I can suggest that would improve how/what they did. 2. The attendees: The people who came on the trip got along and meshed together extremely well. Everyone pitched in and helped with making/cleaning up meals, doing laundry, tidying up and giving encouragement to each other on the trails. In fact, I now count two of the gals from Dallas and Jenny as close new women friends with whom I’m hoping will join the gals from Des Moines for a meet-up in Vegas in February. Joe was a friend before the trip and our relationship has happily deepened as a result of our time together on the trip. 3. The adventure: Due to chronic hip and back pain for the past two-plus years, I went into this trip with no expectations for what I could accomplish on the trails. With compassionate understanding from everyone on the trip — attendees as well as guides — I was given the opportunity to go step by step at my own speed, and I successfully completed 16+ hours of hiking and thousands of feet of elevation shifts on surfaces as varied as gravel, sand, rock, paved and dirt trails. What an eye-opening and confidence building experience! The trip has given me the knowledge that I am capable of doing quite a lot more physically than I thought I could. I’m deeply grateful because since returning home I have added recumbent cycling to my exercise regime and am working toward the possibility of joining Joe and Jenny on the Katy Trail next May. Cycling was a passion of mine for many years, but I felt the need to put it aside due to my hip and back challenges. Now I feel like I’ve gained back an enormous freedom to do more of the physical things I love! That made the trip worth its weight in gold. Thanks to Fit 4 Adventure for being a company that not only offers fun trips but also dream producing opportunities.
Thanks to guides Joe and Ali for the trip of a lifetime (and to Tom for an awesome assist). The last day didn't go as planned, but the other hikes were truly spectacular. House was beautiful, food was amazing, and our guides and hiking companions were rock stars. Also happy to have met Mark, who bravely joined our high-energy group of friends and blended right in! Hope our paths cross again on a future Fit 4 Adventure trip!
Great organization for putting trips together! My first trip was to Bryce Canyon & Zion National Park! Lots of hiking, great food and great group of people! A+! Thank you!!
My husband and I went on the Utah hiking trip October 2016. Five Stars and one word describes the trip... Perfect. The accommodations were incredible, the meals were delicious and the support and help from guides Joe and Lisa was invaluable. We would not have been able to fully experience this amazing part the world without Fit 4 Adventure. An extra plus is the terrific people in our group who were so much fun to hang with for a week - lots of laughs!!!
Ginna and I had an awesome time. We not only enjoyed all of the hikes but also enjoyed meeting and spending time with everyone. On the way home we discussed what a great job Ali and Joe did not only in leading the hikes but also in dealing with all of the logistics of such a trip. Thanks to all in making this a memorable trip for us.
This trip provided me with some great sampling of hikes within Utah’s two great national parks - Zion and Bryce and wonderful opportunity to meet, engage and forge new friendships with terrific group of folks who enjoy nature as much as I do - and kudos to our wonderful guides Joe and Ali
Friends and family followed along with my Instagram posts from the trip, but it has been great fun to fill in the details with stories of each day’s hiking adventure, our delicious meals and the wonderful people with whom I shared my first Fit 4 Adventure trip. Thanks to everyone for your cheerful and inspiring company last week!
I joined Fit 4 Adventure's vacation to Zion and Bryce this past week. It was my first time booking with the group and I wasn't really sure what to expect. After a fantastic week with 14 other amazing people, I would definitely recommend Fit 4 Adventure. The guides I had, Joe and Ali, really spent the whole trip with us as if they were part of the group which you might not expect from other agencies. For this specific trip, I would also recommend. Zion and Bryce were both beautiful parks!
We'll plan the trip!
