You’ll be stunned by the beauty of Lake McDonald and views of the mountains from our cabin. We will start our trip with a stop at Glacier Sun Winery.
You will get your first taste of Glacier National Park at their tasting room where you can try these wines flavored with Montana’s greatest fruits and will also be able to purchase snacks to pair with your selection.
We will then head to our mountain chalet, where we stay 2 nights. This stunning house is one of Glacier's newest and most luxurious. After getting settled into our rooms, we will enjoy a drink on the deck and a Welcome Dinner at the cabin.

Day 2: Sunday July 14, 2019
After a yummy home-cooked breakfast, we head out early morning (to beat the crowds), to hike the 5.8 mile (round trip) Trail of the Cedars to Avalanche Lake. This spot, with its stunning views of Avalanche Lake, will be the perfect place to rest and eat lunch before hiking back.
This hike is rated as Moderate.
Later this afternoon, expect healthy doses of fresh mountain air mixed with adventure as you kayak (and swim if you’d like) in one of the cleanest rivers in the world.
Today's effort will guarantee an big appetite this evening. We'll plan to grill-out at the chalet tonight. Then it's time to relax, unwind and do some star gazing after this epic day.
Day 3: Monday July 15, 2019
Breakfast first, of course, then we pack our bags and head out early morning to start the day.
Today’s hike will be short, but challenging, the reward being breathtaking views. This Highline Trail is above the famous Going to the Sun road and features amazing wildlife throughout the year. Last time we were there, we came face to face with Bighorn Sheep many times. After the hike, you can look forward to the park’s most famous feature...the Going to the Sun road. This drive is meant to be taken at a leisurely pace with stops at the scenic overlooks; have your cameras ready!
We will arrive in the late afternoon at tonight's destination. You'll be excited to see and stay at the historic, St Mary Lodge. This lodge is know for one of the most dramatic backdrops of all Glacier National Park lodges. You'll have free time to walk to the lake and explore the area before dinner.
Day 4: Tuesday July 16, 2019
After breakfast, we will grab shuttles to catch the first boat across Swiftcurrent Lake to begin our hike at Grinnel Glacier. This 7.6 mile loop trail is rated as moderate difficulty, but we will make rest stops and have a lunch-with-a-view break during the day. After the loop, you will be free to explore the lodge, shower, unwind and look out at the beautiful views. After freshening up, we drive to the nearby town of Babb to dine at the funky, Two Sisters Cafe (included in price).
Day 5: Wednesday July 17, 2019
Be sure to have your passports ready today! After breakfast, we will check out of the lodge and make the scenic two hour drive to cross the American border into Waterton Lakes National Park in Canada. You will be wowed again tonight as we've secured rooms at the famous Prince of Wales Hotel! After check-in, let's take an afternoon surrey bike ride around Waterton to explore this beautiful Canadian town. We will hang out at our hotel to witness one of the most magical sunsets you will ever experience. We'll enjoy dinner tonight at one of the favorite local restaurants.
Day 6: Thursday July 18, 2019
Today we will have a relaxed morning followed by Bear’s Hump hike. This hike shows us a “two nation view” of both Montana and Canada. This is a short & strenuous but rewarding climb. At the end of the climb, you'll be greeted by spectacular views of Waterton Valley and Mount Cleveland, the tallest summit in Waterton-Glacier Peace Park. The luminescent Middle and Lower Waterton Lakes glisten from this vantage point and can be described as “where the mountains meet the prairies.” With sack lunches, we will make a drive through Red Rock Parkway for a short .5 mile hike to see the Red Rock Canyon that is located in the Northwest corner of Waterton Lakes National Park and is a can’t miss sight while in Waterton.
Day 7: Friday July 19, 2019
After breakfast in Canada, we will cross back into Montana and head south to the town of Whitefish, for our final day. After checking in at Whitefish Pine Lodge, you can enjoy an optional 2.5 hour zip-line adventure. The tour involves a moderate amount of hiking and you will experience more than a mile of flying on seven separate lines stretching as long as 1,900 ft. across and 300 ft above the forest floor. If the exhilaration doesn’t take your breath away, the views will. If you choose not to enjoy the zip-line adventure, you can walk around and see all the activities and shopping that Whitefish has to offer. We will have our final celebration dinner in downtown Whitefish.
Day 8: Saturday July 20, 2019
Plan to schedule your flights for the afternoon. We will be heading to Missoula for departures after 12:00.
We'll plan the trip!
